One of the things i have understood as regards blogging is that the title must be interesting
with a whiff of scandal-skullduggery-underhand dealings-a whiff of mystery-and the ideal blog-to satisfy all these criteria-are the incomprehensible decisions of the luminariesselected to be the indian cricket selectors.
i have played cricket, watched cricket-read books about the technicalities of cricket as befits a person who loves the game without a vested or personal interest in the benefits derived from the game.
my favourite tv programme for a long period of time -used to be -the bbcs-yes minister and yes prime minister-cla ssic examples of double speak and hypocrisy-till i watched the concrete examples of the foot in mouth characters who are deemed fit to be the
selectors of the indian cricket team.
let me talk about the long history of personal prejudices destroying indian cricket before coming to what is happening in indian cricket at the moment.
indian cricket started on the wrong note -in the first test series in 1932-when two maharajas were chosen as captain and vice captain-and then in 1936-one of the most gifted cricketers to play for india-lala amarnath was sent back from a tour of england by a club level cricketer-vizzy.
this sort of skulldugerry has continued-hanumant singh -a earlier day azzhar thrown out of cricket-declared injured when he had no injury-pataudi-the natural captain of india-changed by vijay merchant because he felt he was cheated out of the captaincy by the senior pataudi.
this is an indructionto the mindless games played by that harebrained committeee
known as the indian cricket selection committee.
i would like to highlight the ways in which this committe is killing indian cricket-
virender sehwag-one of the most successful test openers to have played for india-the only
triple centurion from india-dropped from test cricket because his one day form was inadequate-nonsense.
a question mark as regards-tendulkar-the greatest cricketer to have played for india-
he faced more years of bodyline bowling than bradman-and look at clippings from the last
india-england series to see the many blows tendulkar took on his body-and visualise
the battle he has played for india-and he is on trial-1000 runs this year!
suresh raina-what a talent-manoj tewary-not selected-and the likes of praveen kumar-selected-what a travesty of justice.
i come to the sting in the tail-i wonder when the whole tale of the intrigue played by dravid -arguably-along with tendulkar-one of the two greats of indian batsmanship-the conspiracy-i do believe was hatched by greg chappell-the worst coach i have seen-in connivance with dravid-and a great -truly great batsman got the comme-uppance which is the inevitable result of low politics
