The past few series have seen a renaissance in indian cricket-we have won series in west indies, england and were close to winning a series in south africa-and are about to wrap up a series against pakistan-and i strongly fancy indias chances against australia.
the bcci is not renowned for wisdom-all these results have come after greg chappell has quit the scene.
let us analyse the role of a coach-can any coach teach sachin, rahul, sourav or laxman about batting or motivation-as regards bowling-you have anil kumble and harbhajan with about 700 test wickets between them-and prasad is doing a good job.
as regards fielding-robin singh was one of the best fielders in the business.
there is an old saying-if it is not broke do not fix it-indian cricket is enjoying an indian summer-the seniors
among the batsmen are batting like people possessed-the bowlers are performing their job-the fielders have been improving.
what are the positives that the bcci expects from kirsten-i do not believe he has an understanding of indian cricket or cricketers-or of the domestic system-to deliver.
if a coach is required for the indian team -and he would be required when the seniors in the team retire-it would
have to be someone like ravi shastri-with the stature and understanding of the system to make a difference-let me be frank any white will be a miserable failure. and an indian coach has to be selected with due care and should be reimbursed adequately.
why is it that we still suffer from a colonial hangover-has south africa won anything of substance for us to go to gary kirsten-australia has won most of its matches because of shane warne and mgrath and not because of any coach.
indian cricket is doing fairly well-what should worry the bcci is not the absence of a coach-but the increasing injuries to our potential match winning bowlers-we have still not understood that physiotherapists are
glorified masseurs and what the indian cricket team requires is a qualified sports medicine trained doctor-who
can diagnose injuries early enough and suggest treatment-because the cause of all these problems are the spray and hide policy of these physiotherapists.
i have strayed from the point that i wished to make-that the indian team does not require half baked wisdom from whites who do not understand the indian psyche-and that if properly paid we have enough indian greats who can do the job

Hi gisurgeon,
Enjoyed the intent, content - loads of purpose in this one. Esp liked the gushing flow of the piece. The point you make of a trained sports doc is spot on and needs to be addressed urgently. Before his comeback, Zaheer Khan was making guest appearances in a series - 1 test and down for the count. And what about Sreesanth, RP Singh, Balaji, Nehra, Munaf and god only knows how many anonymous others. What's amazing is how few games all these bowlers have played - i'm convinced they're all consulting with Shane Bond's doc!
cheers, naked cricket
