As armchair critics-we have a lot of choices and a lot of predictions-the last time i made this sort of prediction was when i watched an unknown actor called sharukh in a serial called fauji-and somehow his charisma seemed to transcend the small screen-and i turned to my wife and told her he is going to be the next superstar of bollywood-and my wife still teases me-asking me whether i have second sight.
My next prediction is regarding cricket-i once read a book written by a cricket fan like me called mihir bose-who declared that his idea of heaven was a green field-the sun shining down-and lindwall and lillee-bowling to bradman.that is also my idea of heaven-but i almost reached heaven today watching yuvaraj singh-batting in anger.
today morning sipping my cup of tea -i was talking about an underperformer in the indian test scene-yuvaraj-and i told my son -yuvaraj on a comeback trail is going to hit the cricket ball with vengeance.
what an innings-i have not watched sobers in person-but have seen a few clippings-for sheer timing and savegery of strokes-yuvi has very few parallels in modern cricket.
this is also a plea for the other potential great of indian cricket-virender sehwag to be reinstated-someone who has scored 300 in a test is not a bad batsman-the future has to be built on a core of wasim jaffer, yuvaraj, sehwag, dhoni as the batsmen-irfan , sreesanth, rp singh, harbhajan and chawla-piyush as the bowlers-the core strength has to be identified.
coming back to the kernel of my blog-was this innings not one of anger-a reiteration of talent and determination-i am waiting for the same sort of statement from sehwag.
if that happens indian cricket is in good hands-let us hope!

Gisurgeon - I concur with you on all counts: from Shahrukh to Sehwag, and in between on the overpowering impact of the greens. Do drop by at my blog, Kurta Cricket - had a surreal experience at the Kotla recently. Btw Ian Chappel nailed it in today's HT article (re: Sehwag); and to think, that Greg might have nailed him some time back. As far as Yuvraj goes, I doubt even he can stop himself now - the powers are with him, and he will be accomodated somehow - Dravid may just have to open in Melbourne. The sense behind that, well, that's an entirely different debate. But it only happens in India!
regards, naked cricket
